Buying an RV or motor home is a big decision. Which model and type is right for you? How much are you willing to pay? All important questions.

First, when deciding to by an RV, motor home or other travel vehicle, it is easy to be overwhelmed by the cool features and slick styling. But you need to ask yourself how would this purchase be used by you and your family? Is this a family vehicle? If so, how many people will need to fit in? How long will you be on the road at a time? If you have a large group of people traveling with you, or you will be traveling for several weeks or months at a time, one of the larger class C motor homes may be the best choice over a smaller RV.

Just a few people doing some weekend camping? Class B motor homes and smaller RVs can provide a quick getaway with less hassle and a lower out the door cost. If luxury is the answer or you need a lot of room to live in, the bus like class A motor homes will give you what you are looking for. Make sure that your RV, motor home or trailer is in your price range. Don't let fancy gadgets and slick marketing put you into something that you cannot afford. Remember, in most cases, this is your second home. It shouldn't be costing you more than your first. Still not sure that this is the life style for you? Consider renting an RV or motor home before you start looking to buy. Two or three trips should be enough to determine if you really have the RV bug or not.

Being able to try various models and classes is another advantage. It's no good to spend thousands of dollars on an RV or motor home and realize that it is too big or too small for the way you use it. If you are at the place where you are ready to buy, consider used motorhomes as an entry level option. Again, you are reducing your financial commitment and risk should you decide after a year that an RV or motor home is just not what you wanted after all. Finding RVs and motor homes for sale is easy. Motor home and RV dealers are common across the country and most cities have free magazines that feature RV and motor homes for sale.

Once you decide to buy, you will need to look into financing. Your own bank is a good first choice, but make sure that they know how to deal with RV motor home loans. If this is not something that they handle, check with RV and motor home clubs and user's groups for companies that have a good track record.

The same thing applies to RV or motor home insurance. While most of the big companies underwrite this kind of purchase, make sure that you get an agent that understands what is involved in insuring an RV or motor home. It's not just the same as a car. The liability limits are usually higher due to the increased size of the vehicle. Theft and damage is also higher, partly because of the price of the vehicle, and partly because of the contents. TVs, video equipment, microwaves, computers, and the rest of your travel accessories all add to the replacement value of your RV or motor home.
